What the bulletin says to do
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Stay cool, stay hydrated, stay informed.

* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with peak daily heat index values 103 to 109 degrees; actual maximum air temperatures will range from 95 to 101 degrees daily! * WHERE...All of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western Kentucky, and southeast Missouri. * WHEN...Until 8 PM CDT /9 PM EDT/ Saturday. * IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...This week of extreme and dangerous heat shows no signs of abating. Climatologically extreme high forecast temperatures a good 10 to 15 degrees above their seasonal normals will combine with the effects of humidity to increasingly make this week a dangerous period of prolonged heat. Heat index values hit triple digits every day and may top out up to 109 degrees. Actual air temperatures reach to near or even above 100 degrees multiple days in a row. Numerous nights might have warm record overnight low temperatures in the mid 70s as well, so there is really no significant break offered from the heat as we head into the holiday weekend and all the numerous activities and outdoor events that may be planned.
