What is happening

What: For the Extreme Heat Warning, dangerously hot conditions with heat index values reaching 108 to 114. For the Extreme Heat Watch, dangerously hot conditions with peak heat index values around 105 possible. Impacts: Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events....

What the bulletin says to do

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

For the Extreme Heat Watch, dangerously hot conditions with peak heat index values around 105 possible. * WHERE...Anderson, Coffey, Douglas, Franklin, Lyon, Osage, and Shawnee Counties. * WHEN...For the Extreme Heat Warning, until 9 PM CDT this evening. For the Extreme Heat Watch, from this evening through Tuesday evening. * IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.
