Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.

At 1224 AM EDT, emergency management reported multiple water rescues in the vicinity of Commonwealth Road, Glebe Road, and Wilson Avenue with multiple vehicles stalled out in high water. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 30 minutes. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Emergency management reported. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Arlington, Alexandria, Annandale, Springfield, Vienna, Groveton, Falls Church, Huntington, Mantua, Pimmit Hills, Crystal City, Reagan National Airport, Burke, Lincolnia, Tysons Corner, Franconia, Merrifield, Lake Barcroft, I395 and I495 Interchange and Ballston.
