At 258 AM CDT, the Iowa Department of Transportation reported 6 to 12 inches of water on I-35 northbound just north of Ankeny. Parts of northern Polk County have received between 4 and 8 inches of rainfall per rain gage observations and radar estimates. For northern Jasper County, rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are more common. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area as storms continue to move into the area this morning. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Department of Transportation reported. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Ankeny, Johnston, Newton, Bondurant, Polk City, Colfax, Granger, Baxter, Iowa Speedway, Saylorville Lake, Big Creek Lake, Elkhart, Alleman, Sheldahl, Mingo, Lambs Grove, Valeria, Newton Municipal Airport and Big Creek State Park. Expect significant flash flooding in the Fourmile Creek Basin.
