Between 0.25 and 1.50 inches of rain fell earlier this afternoon. Only light additional rainfall is expected through 600 PM MDT. Flash flooding is likely ongoing at this time....

What the bulletin says to do

This is a life threatening situation. Heavy rainfall will cause extensive and severe flash flooding of creeks, streams and ditches in the Sacaton and Hummingbird burn scars. Severe debris flows can also be anticipated across roads. Roads and driveways may be washed away in places. If you encounter flood waters, climb to safety.

Bulletin details

At 459 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicates the moderate to heavy thunderstorms have diminished over the Sacaton and Hummingbird burn scars. Between 0.25 and 1.50 inches of rain fell earlier this afternoon. Only light additional rainfall is expected through 600 PM MDT. Flash flooding is likely ongoing at this time. Excessive rainfall over the burn scar will impact Willow Creek and Gilita Creek. This includes Willow Creek Road including the Ben Lilly and Willow Creek Campgrounds and any other residences in this area. Bursum Road near the Willow Creek Campground may also be impacted. Middle Fork Trail number 157 and Iron Creek Trail number 172 will be especially dangerous. The debris flow can consist of rock, mud, vegetation and other loose materials. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding due to previous thunderstorms in and around the Sacaton and Hummingbird burn scars. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of areas in and around the Sacaton and Hummingbird burn scars. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Mainly rural areas of South Central Catron County.
