What the bulletin says to do
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain. It is important to know where you are relative to arroyos, streams, or creeks which can become raging currents in a matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall. Immediately climb to higher ground. Runoff concentrated through narrow canyon walls can quickly become dangerous, life threatening conditions.

Northeastern San Juan County in southeastern Utah... * Until 930 PM MDT. * At 626 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across Kane Springs and Hunter Canyons. Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 2 to 3 inches in 1 hour. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Moab and Spanish Valley. This includes the following streams and drainages... Kane Springs Canyon and Hunters Canyon.
