Rain showers continue to move across the area this evening bringing periods of moderate to heavy rain for the Juneau area. Rainfall amounts around the Mendenhall Valley show around an inch of rain has fallen in the last six hours with between another quarter to three quarters of an inch possible. * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...Montana Creek near areas near the low water crossing on Montana Creek Road and near Back Loop Road at the Montana Creek bridge. * WHEN...Until 630 AM AKDT Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... At 1034 PM AKDT, river gauge reports indicate rises in water levels from heavy rain across the advisory area. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly, especially near Montana Creek. Between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.25 to 0.75 inches are possible. For Montana Creek at Back Loop Bridge: At 10:00pm the stage was 14.7 feet. Flood Stage is 14.5 feet. Forecast: A crest around 15.0 feet is expected around 12:00am Tuesday. Water levels will go below minor flood stage around 3am. Impacts: At 14.5 feet: Water begins flowing over the low water crossing on Montana Creek Road. Bankfull conditions at the gauge with water starting to inundate adjacent undeveloped fields along Mendenhall Loop Road. At 15.5 feet: Up to one half foot of water will flow over the low water crossing on Montana Creek Road after the community gardens. Water will approach and begin to inundate yards of residences along the Northwest side of Mendenhall Loop Road.
