What is happening

What: Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. Impacts: Rises in small streams and normally dry arroyos. Some low-water crossings may become impassable. Where: A portion of northwest Colorado, including the following counties, Garfield and Rio Blanco. When: Until 645 PM MDT.

What the bulletin says to do

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely. Back roads in the area may be prone to rockslides and mudslides in heavy rain. Stay alert for rocks and debris on roads, and avoid driving on flooded roads. Find an alternate route.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of northwest Colorado, including the following counties, Garfield and Rio Blanco. * WHEN...Until 645 PM MDT. * IMPACTS...Rises in small streams and normally dry arroyos. Some low-water crossings may become impassable. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... At 337 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 0.7 and 1 inch of rain has fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.3 to 0.5 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. Some locations that will experience flooding include... mainly rural areas of Southwestern Rio Blanco and Western Garfield Counties on Missouri and Evacuation Creeks. http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
