What: Small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. Impacts: Water over dirt North Woods roadways. Some low-water crossings may become impassable especially near bogs. Where: A portion of north central Maine, including the following county, Piscataquis. When: Until 745 PM EDT.

What the bulletin says to do

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks.

* WHAT...Small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of north central Maine, including the following county, Piscataquis. * WHEN...Until 745 PM EDT. * IMPACTS...Water over dirt North Woods roadways. Some low-water crossings may become impassable especially near bogs. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... At 439 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause small stream flooding and road washouts. Between 1.5 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are expected over the area as additional showers move over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. Some locations that will experience flooding include... Chamberlain Lake, Tamway and Baxter State Park. This is in remote areas of the Allagash Wilderness Waterway and Telos Public Lands. This may impact portions of the Telos Road, Pinkham Road, Johns Bridge Road, 522 Road and 47 Mile Connector Road. For flood safety visit www.weather.gov/safety/flood
