What the bulletin says to do

Do not drive on flooded roads. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding, including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather Service by calling toll free at 1...8 6 6...2 1 5...4 3 2 4. Reports and pictures can also be shared on the National Weather Service Blacksburg Facebook page and on X.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...Ashe County in northwestern North Carolina... Watauga County in northwestern North Carolina... * WHEN...Until 1100 AM EDT. * IMPACTS...Flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Dangerous flows over low-water crossings. Water over a few roadways, possibly including Todd Railroad Grade Road along the South Fork of the New River. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... At 515 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain. Minor flooding is already occurring in the advisory area. Between 4 and 7 inches of rain have fallen. This includes the following streams and drainages... Cove Creek, Big Laurel Creek, Big Horse Creek, Call Creek, Beaver Creek, Beaverdam Creek, Brushy Fork and Beech Creek. Some locations that will experience flooding include... Jefferson, West Jefferson, Beech Mountain, Lansing, Ashland, Glendale Springs and Sugar Grove.
