* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...Avery County in western North Carolina... Eastern Buncombe County in western North Carolina... McDowell County in western North Carolina... Mitchell County in western North Carolina... Eastern Yancey County in western North Carolina... * WHEN...Until 1145 AM EDT. * IMPACTS...Nuisance flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to streams and other poor-drainage areas, including farmland, parks, greenways, boat-access areas, golf courses, underpasses, and parking lots. Isolated, shallow flows over roadways is possible. A few flood- prone, low-water crossings may become impassible. A small culvert washout or two is possible. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... At 541 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated that the last axis of heavy rainfall associated with the remnants of Isaias is training over the central Escarpment and northern North Carolina mountains. This heavy rainfall will be capable of producing 0.75-1.25 inches of additional rain over the next 60-90 minutes. This rainfall may exacerbate ongoing high flow and nuisance flooding conditions and is likely to cause new areas of nuisance flooding to develop. Areas of greatest concern include Flat Creek near Black Mountain and Montreat, the Cane River near Burnsville, Cane Creek near Bakersville, the headwaters of the upper Catawba River from Old Fort to Pleasant Gardens to Lake James, and Grassy Creek and the North Toe River near Spruce Pine. If rainfall persists or rates intensify over the next 15-30 minutes, portions of this Flood Advisory may be upgraded to a Flash Flood Warning. Caution is advised near any stream or other vulnerable area. Seek higher ground immediately if heavy rain develops. Please have a plan in place should flash flooding develop and do not hesitate to act. Please heed all evacuation orders from Emergency Management officials. Some locations that may experience flooding include... Marion, Spruce Pine, Burnsville, Newland, Black Mountain, Swannanoa, Fairview In Buncombe County, Old Fort, Banner Elk and Elk Park.
