Full official description

Bulletin details

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...Southeastern Mecklenburg County in the piedmont of North Carolina... Northwestern Union NC County in the piedmont of North Carolina... * WHEN...Until 1045 PM EDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Nuisance flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to streams and other poor-drainage areas, including farmland, parks, greenways, boat-access areas, golf courses, underpasses, and parking lots. Isolated, shallow flows over roadways is possible. A few flood-prone, low-water crossings may become impassible. A small culvert washout or two is possible. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... At 438 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated gauges indicated torrential rain due to thunderstorms over Matthews, Weddington, Wesley Chapel, Stallings, Indian Trail, and Hemby Bridge in the headwaters of Twelvemile Creek and Crooked Creek. Isolated gauges have already reported 1-2.00 inches of rainfall in less than 45 minutes with an additional 0.50-1.00 inches likely over the next 15-30 minutes as these storms gradually push east of the area. These rates are heavy enough over a short enough period of time to quickly overwhelm storm drains and cause rapid development of nuisance flooding on area roadways, including in parking lots, intersections, and underpasses. Excessive runoff will work into area streams and may cause rapid rises of headwater streams, including along West Fork Twelvemile Creek near Antioch Church Rd and Weddington Optimist Park, Culvert Branch near Twelve Mile Creek Rd, South Fork Crooked Creek near Indian Trail Rd, S Fork Rd, and US 74, and North Fork Crooked Creek near Idlewild Rd. The confidence in stream flooding is lower due to the expected movement of these thunderstorms cells to the east and outside the area of concern over the next 30 minutes. Some locations that may experience nuisance floodinginclude... Matthews, Indian Trail, Weddington, Stallings, Wesley Chapel, and Hemby Bridge Http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
