Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...Western Bergen County in northeastern New Jersey... Essex County in northeastern New Jersey... Passaic County in northeastern New Jersey... Western Rockland County in southeastern New York... * WHEN...Until 245 AM EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... At 1145 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy showers and thunderstorms approaching from western New Jersey. Minor flooding is expected to occur in the advisory area. These showers and thunderstorms have a history of producing 3/4 to 1 1/2 inches of rain. If they maintain intensity, parts of the advisory area could require flash flood warnings. Some locations that could experience flooding include... Paterson, Passaic, Wayne, Bloomfield, Paramus, Ridgewood, Monsey, Ramsey, Ringwood, Pompton Lakes, Suffern, Caldwell, Hawthorne, Bloomingdale, Fairfield, Pomona, Clifton, West Orange, Montclair and Fair Lawn. http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
