Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks.

* WHAT...Arroyo and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...Central Otero County in south central New Mexico... * WHEN...Until 330 PM MDT. * IMPACTS...Rises in small streams and normally dry arroyos. Flooding of canyon roads upstream and west of Sacramento, NM. Rises along Agua Chiquita Creek will reach Sacramento and Weed over the next couple hours. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... At 128 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause arroyo and small stream flooding. Between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. This includes the following streams and drainages... Agua Chiquita Creek and Sacramento River. Some locations that will experience flooding include... Hay Canyon, Spring Canyon, Potato Canyon, Pepper Canyon, Wayland Canyon, and Agua Chiquita Canyon. http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
