What the bulletin says to do

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues. * WHERE...A portion of east central New York, including the following counties, Columbia, Greene and Rensselaer. * WHEN...Until 1015 AM EDT. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... At 501 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Between 5 and 11 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Some locations that will experience flooding include... Troy, East Greenbush, Rensselaer, Hudson, Chatham, Nassau, Claverack, New Baltimore, Coxsackie, Valatie, Athens, Castleton-On-Hudson, Philmont, Kinderhook, Lorenz Park, Claverack-Red Mills, West Sand Lake, Averill Park, Wynantskill and Wyantskill. http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
