These storms may produce a waterspout. A Special Marine Warning may be needed. These strong thunderstorms will likely produce winds to around 30 knots, and could pose a serious hazard for boaters. A special marine warning may eventually be required when these strong thunderstorms reaches the nearshore waters. Boaters should consider heading for shore before these strong thunderstorms arrives. Intense lightning is occurring with these storms. If caught on the open water, stay below deck if possible, and keep away from ungrounded metal objects.

At 317 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots and small hail. These thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Surf City to 6 nm northwest of Figure Eight Island to 10 nm northwest of Wrightsville Beach to 16 nm northwest of North Masonboro Island, moving east at 25 knots. strong thunderstorms will be near... Topsail Tire Reef around 320 PM EDT. Billy Murrell Reef and Wrightsville Beach around 325 PM EDT. Harris Reef and Johnny Mercer Pier around 330 PM EDT. Dallas Rock, Masonboro Sea Buoy, and North Masonboro Island around 335 PM EDT. Liberty Ship and Topsail Boxcars around 340 PM EDT.
