Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher waves, and lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until this storm passes. If caught on the open water, prepare for deteriorating conditions. Make sure you and your crew are wearing properly fitted life jackets. Intense lightning was occurring with the storm. If caught on the open water, stay below deck if possible, and keep away from ungrounded metal objects.

The areas affected include... Coastal waters from Cape Fear NC to Little River Inlet SC out 20 NM... Coastal waters from Little River Inlet to Murrells Inlet SC out 20 NM... Coastal waters from Surf City to Cape Fear NC out 20 nm... Waters from Little River Inlet SC to South Santee River SC from 20 to 60 NM... Waters from Surf City NC to Little River Inlet SC from 20 to 60 NM... At 1237 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated an area of strong thunderstorms, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots. The strongest of these thunderstorms was located near Cape Fear Knuckle Buoy, moving east at 40 knots.
