What is happening
A Marine Weather Statement has been issued for the following areas... Sebastian Inlet to Jupiter Inlet 20-60 nm... At 1047 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots. This thunderstorm was located 39 nm northeast of Hobe Sound Beach, moving north at 10 knots.
What the bulletin says to do
Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher waves, and lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until this storm passes. Frequent cloud to water lightning is occurring with this storm. If caught on the open water stay below deck and, if possible, avoid ungrounded metal objects. Remember, lightning can strike beyond 10 miles away from a thunderstorm.
