What the bulletin says to do

Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the basement or small central room in a sturdy structure. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Please send your reports of hail and/or wind damage, including trees or large limbs downed, by calling the National Weather Service office in Newport at 1-800-889-6889. Large hail, damaging wind, and continuous cloud to ground lightning are occurring with these storms. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Southeastern Dare County in eastern North Carolina... * Until 100 AM EDT. * At 1218 AM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Bodie Island Lighthouse to 10 miles northwest of Frisco to near Ocracoke Ferry Terminal, moving east at 50 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. * Locations impacted include... Frisco, Buxton, Salvo, Avon, Waves, Rodanthe, Hatteras Ferry Terminal, Ocracoke Ferry Terminal, Avon Pier, Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, Hatteras Island Fishing Pier, Bodie Island Lighthouse, Ocracoke Lighthouse, and Outer Banks Fishing Pier.
