Thunderstorms can produce sudden waterspouts. Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally hazardous seas. Seek safe harbor immediately. Frequent lightning is occurring with this storm. If caught on the open water stay below deck if possible, keep away from ungrounded metal objects.

Pamlico Sound... * Until 545 PM EDT. * At 440 PM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was located 10 nm west of Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, or 12 nm south of The Center Of Croatan Sound. The strong thunderstorm was nearly stationary. HAZARD...Wind gusts 34 knots or greater. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves. * The strong thunderstorm will remain over mainly open waters.
