What the bulletin says to do

Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until these storms pass. Wind gusts in excess of 50 knots, high waves, dangerous lightning, and heavy rain are possible with these storms. Frequent lightning is occurring with these storms. If caught on the open water stay below deck if possible, keep away from ungrounded metal objects.

For the following areas... Pamlico Sound... S of Cape Hatteras NC to Ocracoke Inlet NC out to 20 NM... S of Oregon Inlet NC to Cape Hatteras NC out to 20 NM... At 106 AM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 13 nm east of Engelhard to near Pamlico Sound to near Hatteras Inlet, moving east at 20 knots. HAZARD...Wind gusts in excess of 50 knots. SOURCE...Marine observation. At 104 AM, a 53 knot wind gust was reported at the Pamlico Sound WeatherFlow station. IMPACT...Boats could suffer significant structural damage in high winds. Small craft could capsize in suddenly higher waves. Locations impacted include... Hatteras Village, Pamlico Sound, The Center Of The Pamlico Sound, and Cape Hatteras.
