A wet system continues to move over the southern panhandle through tonight, bringing an extended period of moderate to heavy rain for the southern panhandle. Highest rain rates are expected through this morning, perhaps around 0.2 to 0.4 inches per hour at times, primarily for Ketchikan, Metlakatla, and Misty Fjords. Nearly 1.5 to 2.5 inches of rainfall has been observed since Sunday, with over 3 inches in some surrounding higher elevations. Through tonight, storm event total rainfall of 2 to 3.5 inches is expected for low elevation sites with up to 4.5 inches in the higher elevations. There is moderate to high confidence for heavy rainfall over Annette Island and Ketchikan with the highest rain totals near Misty Fjords. Small streams and rivers are starting to show some rises, but no river flooding is expected at this time. Ponding of water on some roadways is likely.
