What the bulletin says to do

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. If on or near John Martin Reservoir, get out of the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 900 PM MDT for southeastern Colorado.

At 615 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 10 miles northwest of Las Animas to Cheraw to near Rocky Ford. Movement was southeast at 25 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph and penny size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... La Junta, North La Junta, Rocky Ford, Las Animas, Swink, Cheraw, Hasty, John Martin Reservoir, and Fort Lyon.
