What the bulletin says to do

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. If on or near Millinocket Lake and Ambajejus Lake, get out of the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.

At 651 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 10 miles south of Mount Katahdin, moving southeast at 25 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph and nickel size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Millinocket, East Millinocket, Medway, southwestern Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument, Mattawamkeag, Chester, Woodville, Grindstone, Cedar Lake, and Norcross. This includes the following highways... Interstate 95 between mile markers 231 and 247. State Highway 11 between Norcross and Medway.
