Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.

At 807 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms 9 miles northeast of Sanford, moving east at 25 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Raleigh, Cary, Sanford, Carthage, Garner, Fuquay-Varina, Angier, Goldston, Apex, and Holly Springs. This includes the following highways... Interstate 40 between Mile Markers 286 and 288, between Mile Markers 289 and 295, and between Mile Markers 313 and 317. Interstate 440 near Mile Marker 1. US 1 between Mile Markers 69 and 101.
