Movement was south at 20 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs...

What the bulletin says to do

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Strong winds may occur well ahead of any rain or lightning. Do not wait for the sound of thunder before taking cover. SEEK SHELTER IMMEDIATELY inside a sturdy structure and stay away from windows. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 1000 PM EDT for central North Carolina.

At 937 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Zebulon to 6 miles northeast of Bailey to 7 miles east of Fremont. Movement was south at 20 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Raleigh, Goldsboro, Smithfield, Clinton, Wilson, Wake Forest, Garner, Clayton, Dunn, and Mount Olive. This includes the following highways... Interstate 95 between Mile Markers 132 and 65. Interstate 40 between Mile Markers 300 and 359. Interstate 440 between Mile Markers 11 and 16. Interstate 540 between Mile Markers 14 and 24. NC Highway 264 between Mile Markers 20 and 56.
