If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. If on or near Jordan Lake, get out of the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now!

At 713 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 9 miles west of Cary, moving northeast at 20 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Chapel Hill, RDU International, Apex, Morrisville, Crosswinds Boating Center, Falls Lake State Rec Area, and Crosswinds Campground. This includes the following highways... Interstate 85 between Mile Markers 171 and 184. Interstate 40 between Mile Markers 269 and 291. Interstate 540 between Mile Markers 0 and 14. US 1 between Mile Markers 90 and 91. the Durham Freeway between Mile Markers 2 and 17.
